The Los Angeles Temple is one of a series of detailed pencil drawings and paintings created by the artist Chad S. Hawkins. In 1989, at the age of seventeen, Chad started this unique temple series becoming the original LDS artist to involve hidden spiritual images in his artwork.
“Since the Spirit can only be felt by those seeking it,” said Chad, “I made my hidden image noticeable only to those who are looking for it. The Spirit of God can easily be felt on the temple grounds so I drew the sets of bushes as if they were on fire. I also put flames all along the base of the temple, in the trees, and in the flowers.” These images are expressed in the favorite hymn, “The Spirit of God like a fire is burning.” This hymn has been sung at many of the temple dedications, including the Los Angeles Temple.
